Sweet Pongal is a traditional delicious dish from South India cooked during special occasions and festivitals as an offering for the Gods. Locally it is known as Sakkar or Sakkarai Pongal in Tamil and Chakkara Pongali in Telugu. It is usually cooked during Makara Sankranthi or Pongal festival time to celebrate a good harvest.Normally it is cooked using Rice and Sugar but we have made it with Millets and Jaggery.FORGOTTEN FOODS Sweet Pongal is made using Kodo millet, moong dal (yellow lentil), jaggery, cardamom, raisins and cashew nuts. A pack of 400 grams serves 5 people.
